PALAIS ROYAL RESTAURANT

Paris

The Palais Royal is an iconic Paris monument brimming with history. Here it was entirely redesigned to move (back) into the exclusive realms of the Paris gourmet scene.

On one side lies rue de Valois, on the other, the colonnades of what has been called one of the most beautiful public gardens in Paris. The owner of the Evok Hotel Collection Group, headed up by Emmanuel Sauvage, entrusted this niche to Christophe Tollemer. His mission: to overhaul the restaurant’s interior decoration. Right from the front door, the restaurant echoes the district where it is housed. The vaulted lobby is adorned with large black and white paintings by Pierre Roy-Camille. His stylized vegetation celebrates cultivation of both the soil and the mind. In fact, the idea of the garden is the overarching identity that Christophe Tollemer designed for the restaurant, to the enjoyment of diners.

Inside, the pilasters, tile patterns, and arches delineating the galleries all hearken back to the Palais Royal. A matte black ceiling with LED cornices impart a more contemporary feel, as do the jute and linen curtains and wall hangings. The organic highlights are repeated in the natural oak and rattan furniture. This blend of old and new continues on the second floor. Echoing the refined Parisian salons of yesteryear, it features a récamier, elegant furnishings, and a collection of artwork that spans drawings and portraits to more contemporary works. The fireplace, library, old-Paris parquet floor, guéridons and antique lamps conjure up the Belle Epoque. Settle in, you’re amongst friends here.
